Gary Gibbons, Ph.D., MS

Dr. Gibbons is the Founding Principal of The Coleridge Group. He has accumulated a diverse range of experience, including his management, at various times, of investment portfolios for insurance companies, bank trust departments, entertainers and sports figures, hedge funds, corporate pension funds and individuals.   

Additionally, his extensive corporate background includes work (either as a manager, director or owner) with Houlihan Lokey Howard and Zukin Investment Management Inc., Uni-Net Inc., Pacific Midwest Gas Co., Richmark Corp., Century Technology, AdviNOW, Hanseatic Inc., Vita Virtual LLC, and US Sports Co.

Dr. Gibbons is a clinical professor at Thunderbird School of Global Management and an expert in investing and corporate finance with extensive experience in portfolio management, securities valuation, financial modeling, and financial planning and evaluation of entrepreneurial firms. Dr. Gibbons is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Journal of Private Equity.

He has been the founding academic director of both the Thunderbird Private Equity Center and the MGM degree in Global Healthcare Management. He is also one of the founders and long-time directors of the Thunderbird Angel Network (TAN). TAN is now the angel network for the entire ASU system and is now named InvestU. 

Dr. Gibbons has served as an adjunct faculty at Barrow Neurologic Institute (BNI) where he is conducting research on decision models to categorize and select venues in which to establish different types of training programs in specialized medicine.

Dr. Gibbons supervises a variety of student research projects and many of these projects are in the investment, medical services or medical technology industries.

Among his other business-related activities, Dr. Gibbons has served as an expert witness or expert consultant in numerous legal proceedings. He has been engaged by well-known national and regional law firms, public agencies, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) trusts and their boards of trustees, as well as securities-brokerage firms and their clients. His legal engagements have been applied in support of specific tax or regulatory positions, in civil litigation, SEC enforcement actions and in support of arbitration or mediation proceedings.

Gibbons earned his doctorate in business administration—with emphasis in strategy and finance—at Claremont Graduate School of the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management. He received his master's in business administration from California State University, and he earned his bachelor's in business administration at the University of Arizona.

He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, a scholastic honor society for collegiate schools of business, Phi Beta Delta, a scholastic honor society for international scholars, the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts, the Phoenix Society of Financial Analysts and the National Federation of Municipal Analysts.
